Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp shares update after summer rebuild claims

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has now shared a transfer update, after claims the club are to undergo a rebuild this summer.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the tie against Manchester City, the German revealed the Merseyside outfit are already busy ahead of the transfer window opening at the end of the season.

When asked whether the Reds would break the £100million barrier to sign a single player, Klopp replied: “I will not answer the question because we never speak about these kind of things.

“We will spend in the summer, that’s what I can say, definitely. For who and how many and stuff like this, there is nothing to say about that really.”

He added: “It’s clear after a specific amount of time that you need to shuffle things and kind of start anew. That is completely normal.

“It’s just rare nowadays that it happens with the same manager because people realise when you sack a manager and bring in a new manager, things change and you readjust the squad. After seven years it was clear that we have to do it. There is a moment when you have to make changes. We are not where we want to be, where we should be and where we have to be.”

Although on the surface this appears to be fantastic news, we have heard all the same before.

However, this time around, a major overhaul of the squad is desperately needed – and it finally cannot wait any longer.

Liverpool need numerous additions in the middle of the park, with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita set to depart at the end of the season. Players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have been below par this term, and this is only going to get worse from here on out. Therefore, at least three signings are needed in midfield – with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes most regularly touted.

Furthermore, Klopp could also do with adding a centre-back and a right-back. The likes of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been somewhat underwhelming, so competition for places could spark a rejuvenation within the squad.

At this stage, it’s imperative Klopp is given the funds he needs to rebuild his team this summer. Otherwise, we could see another campaign without Champions League football – with it looking all the more likely that this will be the case this season.
