Reported Liverpool transfer target Adrien Rabiot has become a ‘symbol’ of renewed confidence at Juventus.
That’s according to former Reds midfielder Momo Sissoko. Also an ex-Juve man, Sissoko was questioned about the club he left Liverpool for in 2008 by Tuttomercatoweb.
“They [Juventus] are doing well despite a difficult start,” said the 38-year-old. “All the problems the club had have shown that the players have character. The main symbol now is Rabiot, who returned with great confidence from the World Cup. It’s very important for Allegri.”
Rabiot good form alerts suitors
Despite being a decidedly unpopular potential signing for Liverpool fans, Rabiot is actually in really good form in Italy. As Sissoko mentions, this follows on from a World Cup where he played eye-catchingly well for France.
With a new contract at Juventus looking desperately unlikely, this will have alerted those hovering around the 27-year-old.
Liverpool have continually been mentioned as being one of those clubs. After no one bit on the chance to reportedly sign him for around £15m in January [The Telegraph], Rabiot is now set to be available for nothing in the summer. For Jurgen Klopp, he could provide a ‘cheap’ alternative to other summer targets.
We say cheap with inverted commas, as the likelihood is that signing the France international would actually be anything but.
Well-known to value himself extremely highly, Rabiot would probably demand a bumper wage package in lieu of a transfer fee.
However, maybe a move to Anfield would see him lower his monetary requirements. Quotes have recently emerged from the Frenchman outing himself as a boyhood Liverpool fan. If the Reds could get him on a reasonable wage on account of his allegiances, perhaps this is still a deal worth considering.
