Liverpool transfer news: Mason Mount could be available for £50m

Chelsea could decide to part ways with Liverpool target Mason Mount for £50m, according to The Guardian.

As per the report, Todd Boehly is keen to avoid players leaving as free agents upon the expiry of their contracts, after Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen were able to walk for nothing last summer.

The 24-year-old’s deal currently runs until June 2024, but talks have stalled regarding a renewal.

Therefore, the Blues run the risk of Mount going into the summer with just 12 months left.

If this does happen, the west London club will welcome offers for the midfielder.

The Reds are keen to add the England international to their squad, and it is suggested he could be available for about £50m.

Chelsea have offered Mount a contract worth £180,000-a-week, but with the likes of Reece James on £250,000-a-week, he wants the club to demonstrate how much they value him.

It is also said that Manchester United could rival Liverpool for the player’s signature.

With just over a year left on his deal, Chelsea’s £50m valuation seems a little steep.

Liverpool are also targeting Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes for the same price. He is also 24 years old, but he is actually under contract until 2027 – meaning he is a better value option compared to Mount.

However, Jurgen Klopp still appears to be keen to land the Blues star this summer.

Mount possesses all of the traits needed to excel in the middle of the park for the Reds. The German manager is clearly impressed by his hard-working attitude, as he is always ready to do the dirty work for his side.

According to FootballTransfers, the Englishman prefers a move to Liverpool in the summer window.

As a result, it is unlikely he will stay any longer at Chelsea, meaning Klopp has a good shot at signing his man.
