Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota says he gets more nervous playing FIFA than he does playing for the Reds.

Speaking on an episode of Off The Pitch, as shared by the club’s social media, the Portugal international claimed he no longer worries before big football games, but he does get nervous ahead of eSports matches.

“It is [almost like a second job],” said Jota.

“It can upset some people, so some people say, ‘How can you be that good at two things?’

“I know how it sounds, but it gives me some feelings that I don’t get on the pitch anymore.

“For example, when I started playing football, I got very nervous.

“But now I feel like I’m confident and I don’t get that nervous anymore, and I do get nervous [playing FIFA]. Yeah, a lot.

“Not the sleep part, but when I wake up and I know that I’m going to play in an hour or two, I start feeling nervous.”

Jota feels more nervous playing FIFA than football

Whilst we weren’t expecting professional footballers to get nervous before every match, we weren’t expecting one to claim they worry more before playing FIFA!

In fairness to Jota, he does play at an extremely high level, and he even owns his own sports team – so he isn’t wrong when he says it’s like having a second job.

Outside of gaming, the 26-year-old is a very important player for Liverpool.

Although he has been out injured for the majority of the season, the Portuguese forward has returned to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Following the additions of Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, he plays a crucial part as one of the Reds’ five options in attack (six if you include Roberto Firmino).

Due to his versatility allowing him to play anywhere across the front line, Jota adds an important dynamic to the team.

Therefore, there’s no chance Liverpool will consider selling him this summer.
