Former Reds defender Jose Enrique has reacted angrily to The Athletic’s news that Liverpool are increasingly unlikely to sign Jude Bellingham this summer.

David Ornstein released a report this morning that suggested Manchester City and Real Madrid are more realistic destinations for the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund star.

With the Merseyside outfit somewhat likely to miss out on Champions League qualification, it is expected that Jurgen Klopp’s transfer budget will take a hit as a result.

Consequently, the financial power of the clubs rivalling Liverpool puts them in a poor position in the race, ahead of the summer window.

Enrique reacts to Bellingham news

Enrique was outraged by the news that, after all this time, Liverpool could now miss out on signing Bellingham.

Taking to Twitter, the Spaniard shared his frustration.

“They don’t want to invest – even if [it] is [for] one of the best numbers 8 in the world, at just 19 [years old],” Enrique fumed.

“Does this surprise me? Not at all.”

He later added: “From the start I knew he wasn’t coming.

“FSG spending 150m euros on a player without selling? Not a chance.”

This news will come as a huge blow to the Liverpool fanbase, as they have been hopeful over the past few months that they might actually land a player of Bellingham’s quality.

This situation is made far more frustrating by the fact that the teenager still seems keen on a move to Anfield.

Instead, it is FSG’s reluctance to spend money that is stopping a potential switch from happening.

With everything that has happened with John Henry’s lack of transfer budget this season, this news won’t go down well.
