Liverpool transfer news: Reds interested in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Liverpool are now interested in signing Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to CalcioMercatoWeb.

As per the report, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring the 28-year-old to Anfield this summer.

The German is hoping to rebuild his midfield with the upcoming departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita at the end of the season.

He has identified Milinkovic-Savic as an ideal suitor, and Lazio are reportedly willing to part ways with the player for just £44m.

Both Juventus and Arsenal are also touted with interest in the Serbia international.

As midfielders go, not many have better underlying stats than Milinkovic-Savic.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, the 28-year-old ranks in the top three percent for assists made and in the top four percent for non-penalty goals scored.

Subsequently, he has earned statistical comparisons to Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka and Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde – demonstrating his level of class.

Klopp seriously needs new players in the middle of the park this summer, so it’s easy to see why he’s so interest in signing the Serbian.

According to Lazio teammate Ciro Immobile, the midfielder is one of the world’s best.

“Trust me, Sergej Milinković-Savić is magic,” said Immobile. “He’s on the same level as Kevin de Bruyne.”

If the 28-year-old is anywhere near as good as the Manchester City star, then his £44m price-tag seems like an absolute bargain.
