Liverpool are hopeful that Darwin Nunez will be fit to face Manchester City in two weeks time.

As per The Athletic, Nunez has withdrawn from the latest Uruguay squad having picked up an injury against Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old reportedly suffered a cut ankle whilst playing for Liverpool on Wednesday. Despite being called up for his country’s game’s next week, the decision has now been taken to send Nunez home for treatment.

Despite this setback, it’s claimed that Liverpool hope to have their No.27 back ready to face City on April 1st.

Nunez dealt another blow

There must have been a few hearts in Liverpool mouths upon learning the news of Darwin’s latest injury. With three huge games coming up, the Reds could really do with him.

Thankfully, it sounds as though the injury isn’t too bad. Having said that, it’s hard to see why a cut on Nunez’s ankle would rule him out of action at all.

As a result, there will still be a little bit of concern from supporters. If it’s serious enough to mean he can’t play for his country, maybe it’s a slightly bigger problem then it appears.

For now though, unless there’s a further issue, we would expect Nunez to be available to Jurgen Klopp for Liverpool’s next game.

Regardless of that, it is a slight worry that the Uruguayan keeps picking up little knocks. By the sounds of it, this is a bit of an outlier. It isn’t a muscle injury which is encouraging.

But it’s still an injury and whatever way you slice it, Darwin has had a few too many of those this season.

None have ruled him out for more than a few weeks, but it still feeds into the idea of a bitty debut campaign for Nunez. At times he has been ‘outstanding’, at others moments he’s struggled. Throughout the season, he has never been able to find a proper rhythm. Fingers crossed this isn’t another momentum killer for Darwin.
