Reported Liverpool target Gavi has told Barcelona that he isn’t planning on leaving the club this summer.
Gavi could surprisingly be on the market at the end of the season. Financial worries at Barca may yet end up making the new contract he signed in September null and void. That would make the 18-year-old a free agent at the end of the season.
With that in mind, 90min today report that the Gavi has ‘no intention’ of moving elsewhere. To that end, the Spain international is said to have already communicated his wishes to Barcelona.
It’s claimed that prior to him signing a new contract, the Spain international already turned down the advances of several top European sides.
This list includes Liverpool, as well as the likes of Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich. 90min report that it ‘remains to be seen’ whether any of these clubs renew their interest in Gavi.
Barca hoping to escape justice once again
It appears that Gavi may well have missed the point of La Liga’s ruling that his new contract doesn’t count for anything.
This isn’t about whether the youngster wants to leave or not. If Barca cannot register his new contract, he has no choice but to find another club.
By the sounds of it, Gavi will do everything he can not to make that a reality. From his club’s point of view, they’re usually pretty good at weaselling out these situations, so he might be in luck.
But should the hammer of justice decide that it’s finally time to nail Barcelona, it will be interesting to see what happens.
As one of the most prodigious young talents in Europe, he’d be a very wanted man. With Liverpool looking for value as they pursue several new midfield signings, Gavi would be incredibly attractive indeed. Labelled by manager Xavi as a ‘spectacular’ player, the teenager has a huge future ahead of him. To sign him for nothing would be a real coup.
Of course, you’d have to get past the fact that he didn’t really want to join the club, but stick him a place down near the beach in Formby and he’ll soon forget about Barcelona!
