Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has sent a message to FSG ahead of the summer transfer window, urging them to bring in a number of quality signings.
Speaking with The Athletic, the Netherlands captain has claimed the Reds need to sign excellent replacements for the likes of Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner – who are all out of contract at the end of the season.
“Obviously, players are going to leave. That’s been announced so if we want to be where we have been the last five years, we need quality imports, especially with those players leaving,” Van Dijk said.
“Everyone knows that’s going to be very difficult. It is going to be very difficult to find the right players but the club has to do their job in this case.
“We still have a lot of games to play and we want to be in the Champions League. I think that will also help to attract the best players in the world. Not all the time but it will definitely help.”
Van Dijk backs summer rebuild
When it comes to voicing an opinion about the club, Van Dijk seems like the only Liverpool player willing to do so.
Again, he is absolutely spot on with his assessment here. If the Reds fail to address their issues with the squad, they run the risk of maintaining their place as a Champions League regular.
There are numerous players featuring week-in week-out who are no longer good enough to be starting for a team who should be competing for the Premier League title.
One or two signings won’t cut it in the summer.
If Jurgen Klopp’s side want to get back where they need to be, a major overhaul of the squad needs to be made.
Therefore, the upcoming window could be make or break for Liverpool.
