Rio Ferdinand says Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘Beckham-esque’

Pundit Rio Ferdinand has claimed Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold can cross a ball like England legend David Beckham.

Speaking on an episode of ‘This or That’ on the FIVE YouTube channel, the former Manchester United man was asked to pick between the crossing ability of the Liverpool full-back and the Red Devils midfielder.

“I think it’s Beckham. Crossing on the run, I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Ferdinand.

“The closest I’ve seen crossing on the run is Kevin de Bruyne.

“But Trent’s passing
I watched him the other day. His passing with his left foot is like he’s in a training match, just checking things out. ‘Have I got the range on my left foot?’

“He’s crossing the pitch with the ball 50/60 yards on his left foot like it’s nothing – it’s like a golf swing.

“Some of the stuff he does with a ball is ridiculous. It is Beckham-esque.

“Crossing, I would say Becks is the best I’ve ever seen. I can’t see anyone going past Becks.”

Ferdinand says Trent’s passing ability is incredible

As a right-back, perhaps Alexander-Arnold isn’t given the credit he deserves as a long-passing playmaker.

In the Premier League, only the likes of De Bruyne can say they’re as good a passer of the ball as the Liverpool defender is.

Going forward, the 24-year-old is absolutely electric. Although he only has three assists to his name this season, he has become notorious for setting chances up.

In 262 appearances for the Reds, he has sensationally amassed 65 assists – all coming from right-back.

With questions being made somewhat unfairly over his defensive abilities, many pundits have suggested moving Alexander-Arnold into the midfield.

This would allow him to become a designated playmaker, who would have to worry less about his defensive duties than he currently has to.
