Mainz midfielder Anton Stach has no plans to join Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg. Writing on Twitter this morning, Plettenburg gave an update on rumours that Liverpool are interested in Stach.
“Stach was linked to LFC but understand it’s not hot,” he wrote. “But Mainz Boss Heidel is a very good friend of Klopp. Stach has other plans for the summer transfer window.”
Stach not quite enough for Liverpool
Stach’s name filtered through a couple of weeks back as one potentially of interest to Liverpool this summer. Although perhaps relatively unknown to a lot of Reds fans, he would look like a decent fit for what they need.
At 6ft 4” he’s a giant of a midfielder. With Liverpool lacking physicality in the middle of the pitch this season, the Germany international could remedy that a little.
Only twenty-four, he has emerged at Mainz as someone who could possibly play at a higher level. German national coach Hansi Flick has acknowledged this, handing Stach two caps so far.
But with respect to the former Greuther Furth man, Liverpool need someone to come in and immediately improve their midfield. Rather than players who can do a steady job, the Reds need game-changers.
Should he move on elsewhere, maybe Stach will demonstrate that he’s capable of that.
Right now though, it looks as though Liverpool won’t be following up any interest they might have had at one stage. With Tottenham Hotspur also being rumoured to be interested in him, maybe that would be a better fit at this stage of his career.
