Solanke sends Twitter message to 'old faces' at Liverpool after beating them with Bournemouth today

Former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke has wished the Reds all the best for the season after beating them with Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old featured for 88 minutes of the Cherries shock win over Liverpool this afternoon. And taking to Twitter after the game, Solanke shared a messaged to his former employers.

“What a win! A lot of fine margin games recently but we came out on top today. Good vibe in the stadium all round,” he wrote. “Nice to see some old faces, good luck for the rest of the season.”

Liverpool fail to deal with Solanke

During his time at Liverpool, Solanke was pretty much an unmitigated failure. It’s true that he was a young player at the time, but one goal in 27 games as a forward isn’t good enough.

As a result, he was farmed out to Bournemouth, where he has since proven himself to be a reliable goal scorer.

Although the goals haven’t flowed this season, Solanke smashed in 44 goals across two Championship campaigns. With just six goals in his near two-and-a-half Premier League seasons though, it’s clear what his level potentially is.

Regardless of that, the one-cap England international gave his old teammates the run-around on Saturday. Virgil van Dijk appeared uncomfortable with his presence, while neither Trent Alexander-Arnold nor Andy Robertson got to grips with Solanke, either.

Obviously, players tend to raise their game against former clubs. Especially when they perhaps didn’t show the best of themselves at the club in question.

Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp will have expected more from his players up against Solanke. Fellow forwards Jaidon Anthony and Dango Ouatarra in particular caused Liverpool trouble all day long too. You win this one Dom, we’ll get you next time, though.
