Two ex-Liverpool players nominated for PFA Fans' Player of the Year award, Reds got £31m for the pair

Two former Liverpool players have been nominated for the PFA Fans’ Championship Player of the Year award. The Reds got £31m for the pair.

The PFA announced their nominations for the Fans’ Player of the Year award for all four professional leagues on Friday. Liverpool have two in the Premier League race – Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. No surprises there.

But there are also two familiar faces in the running for the PFA Championship award. Dominic Solanke and Harry Wilson – both of whom left Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp – are in the six nominated names.

They join Ben Brereton Diaz, Billy Sharp, Andreas Weimann and the overwhelming favourite, Aleksandar Mitrovic, on the list.

Ex-Liverpool players up for Championship PFA award

Solanke had an interesting time at Liverpool. He arrived as a youth prospect from Chelsea and actually got plenty of games across the 17/18 campaign. Goals were very hard to come by for the striker, though, and his sole strike came on the final day of that season.

Liverpool moved him on in January 2019 to Bournemouth for £19m and he’s finally showing his potential. Solanke hit 15 goals last season and has followed that with 29 this time around. He’ll return to the Premier League next season, too, as a 24-year-old with plenty to prove.

UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL

Wilson had a far longer Liverpool career and was on the books at Liverpool for 16 years. He never got a proper go in the first-team, however, and had to settle for a series of loans.

Fulham offered him a proper home last summer, though, and struck a deal with the Reds for £12m. A fine season has followed, too, as Wilson continues to repay their faith. We’ll always be a little bit disappointed that he never got a chance in Red but the timing just wasn’t right.
