Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has claimed Mohamed Salah is currently his favourite player at the Merseyside club.
Speaking in an interview for LFCTV, the former captain told the Egyptian how he has now taken the crown as his favourite Reds player, having grown up as a huge fan of John Barnes.
“Who was your favourite player?” asked Salah.
“Growing up? John Barnes,” replied Gerrard.
“Barnes was like yourself. A dribbler, exciting. He could score individual goals, like yourself, and he could change a game, and he could win a game.
“Now my favourite… is you.
“It has to be you because Lio, my Lio [his son], he’s obsessed. He loves you more than me. You’re the only human he loves more than me. I’m second.”
Gerrard absolutely loves Salah
Coming from one of the biggest legends in the club’s history, this is a huge accolade for Salah to be awarded.
Since arriving at Anfield in 2017, the £34m winger has been crucial to any success Liverpool have enjoyed.
In 291 appearances for the Reds, the 30-year-old has incredibly bagged 178 goals and 74 assists.
During this time, he has collected a wide range of trophies. This includes winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Club World Cup and the Supercup.
With his emphatic figures in front of goal, Salah has led Liverpool to offensive success – leading the line of what became the most feared front-three in world football.
As a result, many supporters would agree with Gerrard’s selection, as he is obviously a fan favourite on Merseyside.
Salah will certainly go down as a club legend at Anfield. Alike Gerrard, he will forever be known as a hero of Liverpool FC.
