Jamie Carragher has urged PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe to leave the French champions, amid rumours of a move to Liverpool.
Mbappe was part of the PSG side beaten 2-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night. The result saw the Parisians exit the competition at the last-16 stage for the second year in a row.
And speaking to CBS Sports Golazo after the game, Carragher said the sooner Mbappe leaves the ‘mess’ at his current club, the better.
“I’m delighted PSG have gone out, I am,” said the Liverpool legend. “I just don’t like the whole set-up, everything about it. It’s not a team, it’s just a mess. Five years out of seven they’ve gone out in the last-16. they’ve spent more money than anyone, they’ve got the best players in the world…
“Kylian Mbappe has got to leave that club.”
Liverpool the only option for Mbappe
PSG’s constant struggles in the Champions League are really quite something. Having been operating as an elite club for more than a decade now, they just can’t crack it.
To be fair to them, they do seem to get the rough end of the stick with draws. Bayern Munich this year, Real Madrid last. They’re not ideal opponents for a last-16 game. Not at all.
But having said that, the French side should be more than a match for both of those teams. Okay, Neymar is injured at the minute, but they still have Mbappe and Lionel Messi. The two players who scored four goals between them during the last World Cup Final.
From Mbappe’s point of view, it looks like he may never realise his dream of winning the Champions League with his hometown club. There have been tons of rumours over the last few years that the 24-year-old is finally getting sick of coming up short.
As a result, how many times have we heard that he wants out? Unfortunately for Kylian though, he doesn’t have a lot of options of where to go. In fact, as recently as January it was claimed that the only club that PSG would sell their jewel to is Liverpool.
With his mother reportedly a Reds fan, there is a link there. But the simple fact is that Liverpool could never come close to affording his reported £352m fee and ginormous wages. So, although Carragher may wish for different, it looks like poor Mbappe is stuck in his lavish prison for the time being.
