Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has revealed he dreams of playing in the Premier League, after claims Liverpool are keen to sign him.
Speaking after being named ‘Best Foreign Athlete of the Year’ by the Italian Foreign Press Association, the Nigeria international shared his goal of one day playing in England.
“I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world is an amazing feeling for me,” said Osimhen, as per Sky Sports.
“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I’m in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.
“I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League some day but like I said, it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well.”
Gazzetta dello Sport and The Mirror have previously reported that Liverpool have explored the idea of bringing the 24-year-old to Anfield.
Sky Sports even claim the Reds have been tracking the attacker since 2019 – back when he was at Lille.
Liverpool linked Osimhen dreams of PL move
While this was reported over the summer and ahead of the January window, this interest has probably waned somewhat with other areas of the pitch now needing to be addressed.
Liverpool had only just welcomed Darwin Nunez to Merseyside, and they were also yet to sign Cody Gakpo – who arrived during the winter window.
At the time, it was said that it would take at least £87m to lure Osimhen away from Napoli – and this figure is expected to be even higher now after the amazing season he has had.
Instead, the Merseyside outfit will concentrate on revamping their midfield, and perhaps bring in another centre-back, as they look to rebuild.
We’re sure Jurgen Klopp would love to have Osimhen at Anfield, but Liverpool realistically don’t have the budget for this.
