Chris Sutton now makes Liverpool transfer claim ahead of summer window

Pundit Chris Sutton has now made an interesting Liverpool transfer claim ahead of the summer window.

Speaking on The Monday Night Club for BBC 5 Live Sport, the former Celtic striker claimed the Reds are set to undergo a busy transfer window in the summer, with numerous players leaving and arriving.

“I just think this season, I don’t think they can turn around the deficit in Madrid. That result might give them real confidence but it’s about finishing the season strongly,” said Sutton.

“I still think the summer is going to be really, really interesting in terms of players moving out of the club and players coming in.

“I think from a Liverpool perspective, the performances of Gakpo and Nunez were really important [against Manchester United].”

Sutton thinks Liverpool will have a busy summer

After the various issues Jurgen Klopp has had with his squad this season, numerous additions are needed in more than one area of the pitch.

The obvious position which needs strengthening is the midfield. Whilst performances have improved recently in the middle of the park, the Reds’ problems have been deep lying for some time.

With the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and possibly James Milner all departing at the end of the season, three new midfielders will need to be brought in – and at least two of them need to be immediate starters.

Elsewhere, the centre-back position has also been lacking recently. With Joel Matip and Joe Gomez not at their best this year, this has left Liverpool with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as the only two top-quality options.

However, Konate has suffered from a few injuries lately, making the need for an extra defender even greater.

Therefore, FSG better be ready to put their hands in their pockets, as Klopp will need a healthy budget to sort Liverpool’s issues this summer.
