The Athletic’s journalist David Ornstein has now revealed what failing to qualify for the Champions League will mean for Liverpool.
Speaking on Sky Sports earlier today, the reporter suggested that finishing outside of the top-four will have a significant effect on the Reds’ budget in the summer.
He claimed that if the Merseyside outfit fail to secure Champions League football for next season, then this will have a ‘massive impact’ on the funds available to spend on signing new players this summer.
This could mean that Jurgen Klopp won’t necessarily be provided with the money he needs to rebuild his squad, despite a very a disappointing campaign.
Klopp needs a summer rebuild
This would be an absolute travesty if it were the case.
The reason Liverpool are in this mess in the first place is that FSG have underfunded the side for so long.
This means that players who should have been let go of years ago are still featuring week-in week-out for the Reds.
The transfer budget wasn’t there when Liverpool were in the Champions League each and every season. Therefore, the excuse that funds won’t be available, due to failing to qualify, is an absolute joke.
The Merseyside outfit will have failed to qualify as a consequence of the lack of funds they were given.
This shows just how necessary it has been to add to the squad over recent years, but a failure to do so has led to a decline in the team.
Fans will be outraged over such a situation, and rightly so – the squad needs rebuilding.
