Anfield cult-hero Dirk Kuyt has sent Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo a message on Instagram after the youngster’s superb performance against Manchester United yesterday.
The Dutchman bagged twice as the Reds humiliated Erik ten Hag’s side with a 7-0 victory.
With phenomenal displays occurring all around the pitch, the 23-year-old still managed to stand-out in the final third – stunning United’s defence.
Taking to Instagram after the annihilation, Gakpo shared a collection of images from the game – with many a celebration included.
In the comments, former Liverpool number 18 Kuyt took time to share his congratulations and write a message for his numerate successor.
“Well done number 18,” wrote Kuyt, alongside two flame emojis.
“That’s what I mean with [that] kind of magic.”
Kuyt full of praise for Gakpo
Arriving at Anfield in early January, Gakpo probably joined the Reds in their worst state for many years.
Therefore, it was always going to be a difficult transition for the Netherlands international, who made the switch from the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven.
However, as time has worn on, the 23-year-old and the rest of the attacking line have started to gel with one another.
Consequently, Gakpo has improved week-in week-out – culminating with an excellent performance against the Red Devils yesterday.
He is moulding into what Jurgen Klopp wants from a centre-forward, obviously taking advice from Roberto Firmino.
The attacker looks equally as dangerous off the left as he does down the middle, showing similar versatility to Kuyt himself.
Therefore, let’s hope Gakpo can have a similar career to the Dutchman at Anfield – who is loved by all supporters on Merseyside.
