Stan Collymore shares what insiders have told him about £60m star's move to Liverpool

Mason Mount’s potential summer move to Liverpool is ‘very much on’ as of right now.

That’s according to former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore. Collymore isn’t usually an obvious source for transfer stories. However, the pundit has told CaughtOffside that he’s been reliably informed of discussions beginning between Chelsea and Liverpool.

“I’ve been told by two very reliable people, one of which being a person who knows Mason Mount personally, that his rumoured move to Liverpool this summer is very much on,” Collymore claimed.

“It’s already being discussed within both clubs. There is a lot still to decide though, particularly at Chelsea. There will be a lot of outgoings and probably some more incomings so a lot will depend on what the club decides to do but the fact they’re already talking about the possibility of letting Mount go says a lot.”

Encouraging news from a Liverpool point of view. Let’s see if Collymore’s sources turn out to be correct.

Mount ticking the Liverpool boxes

After seeming impossible previously, a Liverpool move for Mount now appears to be increasingly likely.

Time will tell whether Collymore has been given reliable information here, but plenty of other sources appear to corroborate his information.

To some Liverpool fans, that will be a disappointment. Although Mount is a fine player, he isn’t exactly the glamour signing some have been clamouring for.

Despite that, he ticks a lot of boxes for the Reds. Homegrown? Check. Fit as a fiddle? Check. Versatile in midfield and potentially forward areas? Check. Young and with potential to develop? Check. We could go on.

The only thing perhaps still in question is the fee Chelsea will demand. In a regular window it’s hard to put a number on what Mount would cost. Jurgen Klopp previously called him a ‘£60m player’ and you’d think that wouldn’t be too far wrong.

But with one year left on his contract, Liverpool could get themselves a bargain. Interesting times ahead in this one.
