Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Inter Milan duo Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez and could try to sign both players for Liverpool.
Thatâs according to Italian outlet Inter Live. The main focus of their report is Barella, who is claimed to be a big target for Liverpool during the summer.
Itâs suggested that Klopp has been tracking the 26-year-old for some time. As a result of Liverpoolâs need for a midfield revamp, Barella is now claimed to have come to the fore.
It wonât be easy to sign him though, with Inter demanding around ÂŁ88m for his sale. This reportedly wonât âscareâ the Reds, although theyâre said to be weighing up the opportunity of adding a player exchange to sweeten the deal. In that respect, Fabinho is claimed to be the most likely candidate.
However, Inter will reportedly turn down any such proposition. They donât want to lose Barella, but if they did, it would be purely on a cash up-front basis. As for Martinez, heâs said to be âhighly esteemedâ by Klopp, and could also be on his summer wish list.
Barella unlikely to be on the table
As Liverpool look for a new midfielder, Barellaâs name has been thrown up a number of times over the weekend.
Thereâs no question that heâd be a suitable signing for Klopp. Full of running, quality and fight, heâs exactly what Liverpool have been missing this season.
But it really doesnât feel like a deal thatâs ever going to happen. If it were, it would have to be during this off-season. By the time the next one rolls around, heâll be twenty-seven. Surely too old for Liverpool to drop such a big fee on.
As a result of Interâs unwillingness to sell Barella, that makes him probably a no-go this summer.
The Reds canât afford to waste time on targets who arenât get-able. They need plenty of business doing, so itâs better to get new signings through the door and gelling as quickly as possible.
Martinez also feels like a transfer that will never happen. The Argentine has been a rumoured target for Liverpool for ages but a move has never transpired. With the Reds now fully-stocked in attack, they no longer need him. Weâd rather keep Fabinho.
