Liverpool are monitoring Inter forward Lautaro Martinez ahead of the summer transfer window, according to RAI journalist Marco Conterio.

The Reds will likely go in search of at least one stellar signing during the summer and Martinez looks to be on the radar.

The 24-year-old has made 34 appearances for Inter during 2021/22, scoring 12 goals and claiming two assists for the club.

He arrived at Inter from Racing Club in Argentina where he rose through the youth ranks. In 166 outings for the San Siro-based outfit, he’s bagged 61 goals and claimed 22 assists.

Martinez is a wanted man across Europe. He’s viewed in many quarters as one of the continent’s brightest young talents.

Liverpool added Luis Diaz for £49 million to their ranks during the January transfer window but another striker swoop could be on the cards.

Martinez could prove a useful addition and RAI Journalist Conterio said over the weekend: “Inter are moving and watching many players, but they’re also watching many clubs be interested in their players.

“One above all is Lautaro Martinez, who is very popular in England. Liverpool are monitoring him very carefully.”

Inter star Martinez could star at Liverpool

The youngster is a very exciting player but his arrival could signal the end of either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

Both players are yet to sign contract extensions and that provides some cause for concern.

The fact that Liverpool are in the mix to sign the likes of Martinez, however, does at least suggest contingency plans are in place.

Lionel Messi is a big fan of the Inter star. He famously called him spectacular back in August of last year and he certainly knows a player when he sees one.

It would be interesting to see where Martinez fits in at Liverpool. He is absolutely the sort of quality that Klopp should be targeting in the summer.
