Liverpool transfer news: Reds face competition from Juventus to sign Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners

Liverpool now face competition from Juventus in the race to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim the Serie A giants have made the 25-year-old one of their main transfer targets ahead of the summer window.

Previously reported by CBS journalist Ben Jacobs on The Done Deal Show, the Reds have been scouting the Dutchman since before the World Cup – sparking rumours of a winter move.

However, it was said that the Merseyside outfit were always plotting a move for the summer, especially with Atalanta ruling out a transfer back in January.

Therefore, it appears Liverpool and Juventus will battle it out to land the defensive midfielder at the end of the season.

Back during the January window, Jurgen Klopp’s side were reportedly told that it would take £35m to sign the midfielder.

However, it seems like this was pre-empted for the summer, as the club came out and said the player wasn’t available midway through the season.

The Reds need midfield additions now more than ever, so the recruitment staff at Anfield will be working hard to identify talent before the window opens in the summer.

Hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by former Atalanta player Domenicao Progna, Koopmeiners would be a strong singing for Klopp’s squad.

His arrival would provide greater depth in quality, and would allow the club to sign a number of more expensive options on top – hopefully including Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
