Liverpool should sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice in order to âtransformâ the team this summer.
Thatâs the view of former Liverpool player Didi Hamann. Speaking to TalkSPORT, Hamann urged Jurgen Klopp to bring Rice to Anfield.
âMidfield is the area. I think what they do need is a holding midfielder, if you add a holding midfielder in the summer, Iâd look at Declan Rice,â said the German. âI think heâd be the player who could really transform the team, because you need players who make other players better, then you can build.
âThen you maybe get one or two next to him, attacking midfielders. Youâve got Bajcetic now, maybe Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones maybe they make the next step. Itâs hard for a young player to progress or improve when the team is not functioning, you canât expect them to do the job. Carvalho â weâve not seen any of him, donât know what the reason is behind that.â
Rice not the worst idea for Liverpool
This isnât the first time Liverpool have been told to go all-in to sign Rice at the end of the season.
It certainly wouldnât be the worst idea. As the whole world knows, the Reds badly need midfield reinforcements this summer.
Now a regular in the England side and a seasoned Premier League player, Rice finally looks ready to leave West Ham.
Putting two and two together, Liverpool coming in for the 24-year-old would make a lot of sense. As Hamann points out, it could be time to bring in a new holding midfielder given Fabinhoâs struggles this season.
But regardless of the obvious qualities that Rice would bring to the table, it still seems impossible that this will happen.
Liverpoolâs top transfer target is quite clearly Jude Bellingham. As of right now, they also look like being the playerâs preferred choice of destination, too.
With the finances to get that deal done in mind, thereâs no way Liverpool could then go and get Rice as well.
West Ham boss David Moyes has previously stated that it would take more than ÂŁ100m to sign the England man. He may well be the answer to several problems for Liverpool, but at that kind of fee, it isnât going to happen.
