Report: Stefan Bajcetic now in contention for call-up to Spain national team

Liverpool youngster Stefan Bajcetic is now in contention for a call-up to the Spain national team.

That’s according to Diario AS, who claim that La Roja manager Luis de la Fuente may consider calling the 18-year-old up to his senior squad.

Having been in exceptional form for the Merseyside outfit, Spain are keen to not miss out on another youngster who is eligible to play for another country.

They have missed out on Alejandro Garnacho (Argentina), Nico Paz (Uruguay) and Alvaro Rodriguez (Uruguay), and they are worried they could lose Bajcetic to Serbia – whom his father played football for.

The midfielder grew up in Vigo and came through the academy at Celta Vigo initially.

As a result, Luis de la Fuente is considering calling him up to his senior squad. He has already made his debut for the U18’s, so if he fails to make the first-team this year, he will almost certainly move up to the U21’s.

Having demonstrated incredible class and maturity in a Liverpool shirt this season, this is a well-deserved reward for Bajcetic.

The teenager has only made 14 appearances for the Reds’ first-team, but he has already shown he is a crucial player for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the middle of the park.

He was even voted as Liverpool’s player of the month for January, having been a bright spark in a disappointing Reds side.

Thus, going forward, Bajcetic will continue to play a pivotal role in the Merseyside midfield.

He has shown huge versatility as both a number six and a number eight. This will be incredibly useful for Klopp, who now needs to sign one less player in the middle of the park.

The German boss has claimed the youngster has been absolutely ‘exceptional’ for Liverpool this term, so a call-up to Spain’s national team will come as a reward for all of his hard work.
