Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared an injury update on attacker Darwin Nunez, ahead of the first-leg of the Reds’ Champions League tie against Real Madrid tomorrow.
Taking to his pre-match press conference, the German claimed it is possible that the 23-year-old features, despite having had to leave the field early during the second half of the 2-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.
“There’s a chance,” Klopp said of Nunez playing tomorrow.
“From all the possible scenarios, apart from being absolutely nothing; that’s not the case.
“We have to see how he can deal with the pain [and] when we know that, we make a decision.”
Klopp says Nunez could feature tomorrow
This will come as a big boost to Liverpool, as Nunez was in electric form before coming off injured against Newcastle at the weekend.
His blistering pace and brute physicality caused serious problems for the opposition defence, and that’s what Klopp will be hoping he’ll do against Madrid tomorrow night.
The 23-year-old is pivotal to how the Reds attack, as his ability to cause absolute mayhem leads to chances being created for Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.
The Uruguay international will be relishing the chance to play in the Champions League at Anfield tomorrow, having already scored three times in six competition appearances this season.
With Liverpool having stepped up in form recently, it’s important that Klopp will be able to field the same team who’s started to pull things together tomorrow.
Therefore, Nunez will presumably play a big role against Los Blancos.
