Eintracht Frankfurt are expecting Liverpool to make a bid for star striker Randal Kolo Muani this summer.
Muani has been brilliant for Eintracht this season, registering 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions. This has led to suggestions that the Frenchman is likely to be on the move very soon.
And according to Sport Bild, Frankfurt are readying themselves for offers to come their way. More specifically, it’s claimed that both Liverpool and Manchester United will make concrete approaches to sign Muani.
Real Madrid and PSG are also reportedly ‘discussing’ how best to proceed with their interest in the France international.
From Eintracht’s point of view, it’s claimed that a transfer could also ‘make sense.’ Despite Muani’s importance to them, a big offer could supposedly tempt them into a sale.
According to Bild, the Eagles would have a big decision to make should an offer of around £89m come in this summer.
Timing wrong for Muani move
Interestingly, this claim is in direct contrast to the update given by journalist Fabrizio Romano yesterday. Transfer expert Romano suggested that Eintracht are actually expecting Muani to stay until summer 2024.
For Liverpool, this would make much more sense. With signings needed in midfield above anything else, the Reds have to funnel their funds elsewhere this year.
They could also do with a new centre-back, which won’t come cheap.
As a result, Liverpool shouldn’t be targeting any forward additions in the coming off-season. If the right player becomes available, then that may change. But right now, they have more than enough firepower.
Cody Gakpo’s signing gives him a full half-season to settle in before next season rolls around. Add to that the fact that Roberto Firmino is likely to sign a new deal, and Jurgen Klopp should have six top quality attacking options to pick from.
Muani would be a welcome addition to that, of course. But looking at his expected price-tag, the timing wouldn’t appear to be right for Liverpool to make this move happen. Stay put until next year though, and who knows.
