Roberto Firmino is ‘on the verge’ of securing a new Liverpool contract, according to one journalist. The Brazilian’s deal expires this summer.
This comes from Florian Plettenberg. He claims that Roberto Firmino is now closing in on a new contract.
Firmino’s deal currently expires at the end of this season but there has been chatter of late that Liverpool want him to sign a new one. Jurgen Klopp has openly admitted, in fact, that he wants the Brazilian to stay.
And it now seems that he will. His agent talked with Sky Germany this week, making it fairly obvious what will happen.
“We are in a super exchange & in February we will probably also know where the journey goes,” he said, per Plettenberg. “We are on a good path.
“We’re having really good talks with Liverpool. This is an outstanding club.”
The journalist went on to Tweet that the Reds are now ‘on the verge’ of making this one happen.
“He is on verge to extend at Liverpool as his agent confirms at Sky,” he wrote. “Decision soon. Usually he wanted to sign a new contract until 2025.”
Roberto Firmino nears new Liverpool contract
This is the news Jurgen Klopp will want to hear. He’s raved about Firmino this season, labelling him ‘exceptional’ and the ‘heart and soul’ of this team.
Given Firmino’s form, it’s hard to disagree. The Brazilian feels irreplaceable for all he brings and that’s largely why we called this contract one of Liverpool’s most important deals of 2023.
Getting another two years out of the no.9 would be massive and allow Liverpool to move forward with this incredible selection of forwards. Losing him would mean likely having to replace him somehow – and the Reds can’t really afford to spend that kind of money.
Not only is there no obvious replacement out there, but the midfield needs all the investment it can get. So for us, renewing Firmino’s contract is an absolute no-brainer.
