Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has admitted that he’s ‘desperate’ for his old club to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
Bellingham is the Reds top transfer target this summer and has been for quite some time. For now though, he’s still tearing it up at Dortmund. Fresh off the back of beating Chelsea 1-0 in last night’s Champions League last-16 first-leg, the 19-year-old addressed Carragher in the CBS Sports Golazo studio.
After Carra had seemingly pushed for the interviewer to propose to his girlfriend live on air on Valentine’s Day, Bellingham was asked for his response.
“He was trying to get you to propose? Jamie, do better. Not on Valentine’s Day, not when she’s there, I’ve got your back there!” Bellingham told the reporter. Back in the studio, Carragher admitted he’d do anything the youngster requested, as long as he signs for Liverpool.
“Listen, I want that man in a red shirt, so I’m going do whatever that man tells me to do. So if Jude Bellingham’s got any more advice for me, I’m taking it all day my friend,” said the Reds legend.
“You sound quite desperate there,” interjected Micah Richards. “For Jude Bellingham? I am! We are!” responded Carra, arms spread in desperation. Another little insight into the kind of character Bellingham is. An impressive young man.
Carragher joins clamour for Bellingham
Carragher speaks for pretty much the whole Liverpool fanbase here. At this point, Bellingham has become something of an obsession at Anfield.
Against Chelsea last night he once again showed why that’s the case. Up against the Blues £106m man Enzo Fernandez, it’s fair to say that the Englishman got the better of this clash. He very much lived up to the ‘world-class’ label given to him by England teammate Kieran Trippier.
Bellingham just looks so assured in everything he does. On the pitch and off it, he’s a picture of control.
Obviously, when you’re looking to sign a player for over £100m, what he does for 90 minutes on a game day is the most crucial element. But Jurgen Klopp will place a huge amount of importance in his manner off the field, too.
From the way the teenager deals with the reporter – wishing him a good evening at the end of the interview, to the way he handles the likes of Carragher. Bellingham is quite clearly captain material at whatever club he ends up at.
With Liverpool searching for Jordan Henderson’s eventual successor with the armband, Jude gets a big tick in this box as much as any other. So, as Carra says, we’re desperate over here. There’s no guarantees of anything, but with huge figures like Carragher and Gerrard publicly urging Bellingham to join, we fancy our chances.
