Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson have sent former Reds player Gini Wijnaldum a message after he made his long-awaited return from injury on Saturday.
Having fallen out of favour at Paris Saint-Germain, the Dutchman joined AS Roma on loan for the season last summer.
The midfielder made his debut for the Italian club off the bench during their opening game of the Serie A campaign.
However, just days after this appearance, Wijnaldum suffered a fractured tibia during training. As a result, he was side-lined for almost six months.
Thus, it was great to see the former Liverpool man back on the pitch at the weekend.
He came off the bench for seven minutes as Roma took on Lecce in the league.
Liverpool players react to Wijnaldum’s return from injury
Taking to Instagram, Wijnaldum was clearly delighted to be back playing football again, posting straight after Roma’s match.
Sharing a photo of him on the pitch, as well as his shirt in the dressing room, the 32-year-old captioned the post, “Baby I’m back”.
Numerous stars took to the comments to send their love to the player.
This included the likes of Van Dijk and Henderson, who shared the Anfield pitch with the Netherlands international.
Dutch teammate Van Dijk was elated for his friend, sending an emoji with heart eyes, whilst his former Liverpool captain, Henderson, congratulated him with clapping hands and a heart emoji.
Wijnaldum was a midfielder the Reds should never have let go, so it’s brilliant to see him back on the pitch now after suffering so many setbacks over the past few years.
