Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk‘s agent is now working with the group who engineered Sadio Mane’s Anfield exit.
As per The Athletic, Van Dijk’s agent Neil Fewings has joined the ROOF football agency as managing partner. As one of his clients, this means that the Dutchman now falls under the group’s umbrella, along with Liverpool teammate Harvey Elliott.
Fewings will now reportedly oversee the agency’s ‘UK and European expansion.’ Van Dijk heads up the list of high-profile players coming with Fewings and colleague Nabile Hakimi.
As well as Mane, ROOF reportedly represent former Liverpool target Konrad Laimer, as well as a number of other German based players.
No threat to Van Dijk’s future at Liverpool
This is nothing to be alarmed about. Although changes surrounding agents can sometimes mean a transfer is brewing, we can safely rule that out with Van Dijk.
Unlike a situation like, say, Moises Caciedo, Van Dijk is more than settled at Liverpool. This notable change appears to be nothing more than following a trusted advisor elsewhere.
With his contract still running for a further two years, it must be pretty easy work being Virgil’s agent right now.
The 31-year-old has seemingly never even come close to leaving Liverpool. Despite their slump this season, there have been no inklings that Van Dijk fancies himself a change.
Should that unlikely scenario apply though, ROOF do have form for getting someone out of Anfield.
Although it has been suggested otherwise, Liverpool clearly had no intention of letting Mane leave last summer. But in the end, he wanted to go. To that end, his agents did their jobs in getting him to Bayern Munich.
It remains to be seen what long-term impact that has on the agency’s relationship with Liverpool.
But seeing as they’ve had no issues with two notable players joining them, it doesn’t appear to have harmed it. That can only be a good thing for future negotiations with both Van Dijk and Elliott.
