Liverpool have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Athletic Club Bilbao attacker Nico Williams, according to AS.
As per the report, the two Premier League sides are testing out the waters for the 20-year-old.
The younger brother of club legend Inaki Williams, the Spain international has a £45m release clause, and it is suggested he won’t be leaving Bilbao for a penny less.
Although the Reds and Villa have expressed interest, it is said the player has remained loyal to the Basque outfit.
However, with his contract expiring in 2024, Williams’ future certainly isn’t set in stone.
Liverpool interested in Williams
Although he is just 20 years old, the attacker played a key role off the bench for Spain at the World Cup.
Known for his electric pace and incredible dribbling, his brother and Bilbao teammate Inaki Williams has claimed he’s ‘practically unstoppable’ in one-on-one situations.
Nico shares the same confidence in his abilities, having compared himself to Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe, for the way he dribbles and attacks like the Frenchman.
However, although Williams is a huge talent in European football, Liverpool are not in need of another forward.
Having signed Darwin Nunez over the summer and Cody Gakpo in January, the Reds need to focus on fixing their midfield issues.
This should take precedence over everything else, with multiple additions needed.
