Jordan Henderson was spotted giving his shirt to a young Liverpool fan at the end of todayâs defeat to Wolves.
The day turned out to be another one to forget for Liverpool, as they were humiliated 3-0 at Molineux. But as per a video from Redmen TV on Twitter, it will still be a memorable match for one fan.
A dejected looking Henderson approaches the travelling Reds fans, standing for a while and applauding their support. Pointing out a supporter in the crowd, the Liverpool captain then hands over his shirt and gives the young lad a pat on the head.
Plenty of fans wonât want to see this kind of thing after yet another spineless display from Liverpool on the pitch. But it just serves as a reminder that no matter the result, this is a club that sticks together.
Liverpool searching for Henderson inspiration
Over recent weeks Henderson has quite justifiably lost his place in the team. But due to the poor performances continuing from those selected ahead of him, heâs still being brought on to do his bit.
That continued today. Unfortunately, the captains disappointing run of form was also apparent once more.
Only given 25 minutes by Jurgen Klopp, Henderson still managed to catch the eye â and not in a good way.
Itâs anyoneâs guess as to why the 32-year-old has fallen off so badly since a brilliant World Cup with England. Maybe he pushed himself too hard in Qatar, maybe age is finally catching up with him.
Whatever the reason, we need to stop seeing him hoof balls up in the air during promising attacks.
Far too many times this season Hendersonâs looseness in possession has cost Liverpool. The skipper just doesnât look to have any idea what his job in the team should be anymore.
Jordan is often hailed as the model professional, the perfect leader for a club the size of Liverpool â and he is. He has proven that over and over again. But questions should lay at his door for the way things have gone this season, too. Henderson is clearly capable of leading this team to great heights. So now that things are lurching from bad to terrible, why isnât he able to lift them?
Those questions will remain until we see his leadership return full-time on the pitch. Maybe that will never happen now. In the meantime, itâs great to see the support from the travelling Kop. That performance didnât deserve applause today, but it got it anyway. Credit to Hendo for recognising that at least.
