Liverpool are reportedly about to strike one of their most important deals of 2023

Liverpool could strike one of their biggest and most important deals of 2023 with Roberto Firmino at the centre. The Reds must make it happen.

UOL recently claimed that Liverpool will renew Roberto Firmino‘s contract for one or two more years. That’s as he comes to the end of his current deal this season.

Teams can actually offer Firmino a formal contract from January 1st, so we’re assuming Liverpool are quite confident here. They’re taking their time to find a deal for their no.9 but we don’t see much panicking.

We’ll take that as a sign that they’re close. Renewing Firmino’s contract should be a priority at this point, after all, and doing so would make it one of the most important deals of 2023. No matter who Liverpool go on to sign.

Roberto Firmino in 2023

Honestly, renewing Firmino’s contract should be a priority simply because of how well he’s playing this season. He’s averaging a Premier League goal or assist every 93 minutes – that’s not exactly easy to find.

But Firmino is more than just numbers. He’s the forward who stitches everything together as the False 9. He’ll drop deep to link with midfield, create space for others and essentially makes the team tick. Jurgen Klopp needs to change things quite dramatically when he’s not in the side.

Thus replacing Firmino is a nightmare scenario, as few players on the planet can even play the same way. Anyone who can do it would either cost a fortune or take a lot of time to learn the role and adapt.

2023 is not the year to do either. Liverpool have eyes on massive signings in midfield, primarily for Jude Bellingham. We highly doubt they could afford to replace Firmino and still have the cash for the teenager, let alone any other midfielders alongside him.

And if change is coming in midfield, we doubt Klopp also wants it up top. That’s just too much, too soon, making it difficult for everyone to adapt.

Keeping Firmino makes everything far easier, then, even on a one-year contract. Making that deal happen would be one of the most important Liverpool can make in 2023.
