Manchester United have inquired over the possible signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who Jurgen Klopp wanted at Liverpool in 2021.

That’s according to the Daily Mail and their journalist Sami Mokbel.

The Red Devils are in the market for a midfielder before the 11pm transfer deadline.

Consequently, they have made contact with the Bundesliga giants over a potential move for the 28-year-old, who only joined the club in 2021 in a deal worth £14m.

However, with the German market closing in the next four hours or so, United will need to be quick.

According to GOAL, Liverpool considered signing the Austria international in 2021, before Bayern eventually swooped in.

Liverpool could do with Sabitzer

With the news Christian Eriksen could be out injured until the end of April, United have moved quickly in the transfer market.

This is something Liverpool could learn from their arch-rivals, having undergone a crisis in the midfield this season.

With various injuries over the months and with the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson severely out of form, the Reds have been begging for additions in the middle of the park.

The established Liverpool players look tired, off the pace and like they no longer possess the athleticism needed to perform in the Premier League.

Therefore, someone like Sabitzer, who brings huge energy across the pitch, would be an incredibly useful signing for Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds need runners, players who will win the ball back and recycle possession – the sort of player they’re missing following Gini Wijnaldum’s departure.

Looking at this criteria, Sabitzer would be perfect; he’s the sort of player who would encompass Klopp’s constant desire to press the opposition.

Consequently, if it is does appear he could be available today, Liverpool should make a last-minute move to bring him to Anfield.
