Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has talked with the agents of Sofyan Amrabat, according to reports. However, the player could move elsewhere.
This comes from the Mirror. They claim that Jurgen Klopp has indeed held talks with Sofyan Amrabat’s representatives.
This was something reports in Italy claimed would happen. It seems that at some point this season, the Liverpool boss tried to make a move happen and convince Amrabat about the Reds.
However, Calciomercato later claimed that Liverpool opted against pursuing a deal. They cited Fiorentina’s asking price as their reason – they didn’t see value for money.
Amrabat’s World Cup performances caused that price to sky rocket, after all. He was arguably the best player in a Moroccan side that finished fourth, generating plenty of hype in his ability.
Liverpool appear to have been priced out of a move as a result.
Sofyan Amrabat and Liverpool
There still appears to be a chance that Amrabat moves on deadline day. Barcelona attempted a loan deal, says Fabrizio Romano, that Fiorentina rejected.
Amrabat hasn’t taken that rejection well, though. He skipped training today in an attempt to force a move before posting a fairly transparent message on Instagram.
Barca’s offer was a loan for around £2.5m that included an option to purchase the player for £32.5m this summer. It’s no great surprise that Fiorentina said no – there’s very little value in that for them.
If Amrabat failed to shine, his value would plummet. If he did shine, his value would increase but Barcelona would still have the chance to buy him for £32.5m.
The only way he moves, then, is by guaranteeing Fiorentina the money now. It seems highly unlikely that Liverpool push forward with a deal this late in the transfer window – but the option does appear to be there.
They clearly rate Amrabat highly, after all, as Klopp talked with his agents. Now’s their final chance to add him to their squad this season.
