Reported Liverpool transfer target Ivan Fresneda could find himself the subject of a late deadline day move today.

That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Writing on Twitter, Romano claimed that clubs are ‘still trying’ to sign Fresneda from Real Valladolid.

The 18-year-old has been linked to a whole host of clubs across Europe, including Liverpool. So far this window though, Valladolid have managed to keep hold of their burgeoning star.

But Romano reports that this may not be the case once the window has closed. The journalist insists that Fresneda will be one to watch until the ‘final hours’ of the market.

Fresneda future still not decided

Romano doesn’t mention any clubs here specifically, which might be some encouragement to Liverpool fans.

The race to sign Fresneda does appear to be a crowded one, though. So it’s probably an outside shot that the Reds will pull off something here.

Arsenal had been reported as the favourites to land the teenager last week. But as the days have passed, a resolution hasn’t been forthcoming.

As a result, the door is still open for the likes of Liverpool. The Reds have been named as one of the teams most closely following Fresneda.

Their need for a right-back may have become slightly more pronounced after injury to Ibrahima Konate today. The Frenchman’s absence will mean that Liverpool are robbed of their right-back cover, with Joe Gomez needed centrally.

With Calvin Ramsay not yet trusted, or not yet fully fit, perhaps there’s an opportunity for Liverpool here.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been off his game all season. Bringing in competition of Fresneda’s calibre would maybe give him the rocket he needs.

The right-back is also said to be available for around £13m [The Athletic]. Hardly a sum that would break the bank. On a day of slim pickings for Liverpool fans, maybe Fresneda is one to keep an eye on, then.
