Wolves have confirmed the news that former Liverpool target Joao Gomes has joined in a £15m transfer today. The player has openly discussed the Reds.
Wolves confirmed on Monday that Joao Gomes has joined the club. He arrives in what the Athletic say is a £15m deal – one that has taken a few weeks to properly sort out.
They get a highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder for that mone. Former manager Paulo Sousa labelled him ‘unique’ last year as teams appeared to line up to sign him.
Liverpool were reportedly one of those. Coluna do Fla named the Reds as potential suitors and Joao Gomes himself, in fact, discussed the Reds.
“Liverpool is a team I would play for,” said the Brazilian, per ESPN Brasil. “I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and my family’s, my biggest dream in football.”
Instead, he heads to Wolves. But it’s a move that could still hold implications for Liverpool.

Gomes won’t be heading to Liverpool but this could be a trigger for one or two transfers. After all, this is Wolves bringing in a talented young midfielder – perhaps they’re preparing for some exits.
Liverpool have actually been linked with two Wolves midfielders. The first is Matheus Nunes, who appears to be the most likely signing. The Telegraph recently made that claim and they’re far from alone in that.
Links to Nunes date back to the summer when he was with Sporting. While Liverpool couldn’t sign him this month because of restrictions – the midfielder has already played for two clubs this season – a summer transfer appears to be on the cards.
One transfer that perhaps could happen this month is for Ruben Neves, though. The Mirror report on Liverpool’s interest there and Joao Gomes could well be his replacement. The Brazilian’s arrival at Molineux certainly makes it possible.
