Fabrizio Romano has named the club currently leading the race for Liverpool target Jude Bellingham. It’s a tightly fought race.
Fabrizio Romano appeared on YouTube channel Born and Red to discuss Liverpool’s transfer business on Monday. The journalist had some interesting things to say – including on interest in Matheus Nunes.
But he also weighed in on Liverpool’s Jude Bellingham pursuit. The question was put to him – where would he put his money right now for the midfielder’s next destination?
“Today? I would mention Liverpool,” said Romano. “But we know how these transfers can change.
“For example, if you asked me one year ago about Erling Haaland, I probably was not going to say Manchester City. In March? Yes. But in January, no because it was still open.

“So today Liverpool are leading the race but the race is still absolutely open. And when you are in the race with Real Madrid and Manchester City, it’s never a safe race until you sign the contracts.”
Liverpool chase Jude Bellingham
So while Liverpool may lead things right now, it could all change by the summer. That’s a scary though, given the Reds’ form this season and the fact they look incredibly likely to miss out on Champions League qualification.
At the same time, if they already lead the race in this position, perhaps they can only improve their chances over the next few months. After all, it’s unlikely that the squad will manage to perform worse than this.

If Bellingham looks at these results and is still leaning towards Anfield, it suggests Liverpool have a lot going for them in this race. At least, that’s the overwhelmingly positive way of looking at things.
The reality is that Liverpool could desperately use a turnaround in form right now. Do that and they might just put up a fight for European places – and confirm Bellingham as a summer signing in the process.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg believes the fee will be at least £88m – that’s merely the low estimate. Fronting that cash could end up being the least of Liverpool’s concerns if their form doesn’t pick up, however.
