There’s a ‘serious possibility’ that Liverpool sign Matheus Nunes, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Reds won’t stop there, though.
Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on Liverpool’s transfer plans this week. He told the YouTube channel ‘Born and Red’ that the club want two midfielders right now.
“I think this is a serious possibility,” said Romano. “So Matheus Nunes is a name, for sure, and Liverpool already wanted him before he joined Wolves. He knew about Liverpool’s interest, so they’ve always been around the player.
“I think it’s a possibility, for him to join Liverpool. I would not say a done deal but for sure they’re having conversations on the player’s side, on the club’s side. So Liverpool want Matheus Nunes and Jude Bellingham.
“Let’s see if they’re able to bring in both of them but this is the plan for the club.”
Liverpool want Matheus Nunes
It’s a good plan – we’re just not sure if it’s the most sensible one. In fact, this plan entirely relies on Liverpool winning an incredibly tight race for Bellingham.
As good as Nunes is, after all, he’s not the player who will transform the Reds’ midfield. Bellingham is that player – and we’re not sure there are too many alternatives now.
If those goes wrong, fans will rightly have major concerns. After all, Liverpool have chosen two midfielders that they can’t actually sign this month.
Borussia Dortmund won’t sell Bellingham mid-season and no one can force them to. As for Nunes, he’s already played for two clubs this season and literally can’t join Liverpool.
Thus it feels a little like the club are writing off this season and focusing entirely on the future. It’s a plan that will look like genius if they end up with Bellingham and Nunes. If it fails, though, there will serious questions.
