Mystery English club outbid PSG for reported Liverpool target

An unnamed English club have moved to ambush PSG’s contract talks with reported Liverpool target Milan Skriniar.

Skriniar is set to leave Inter Milan when his contract expires in the summer. And as per Foot Mercato, PSG had thought they’d just about convinced the Slovakian defender to join them.

However, this is now under threat, as a mystery English club reportedly aim to blow them out the water. The Premier League club are claimed to have offered Skriniar a higher salary than the one he requested from PSG.

As a result, the 27-year-old is said to have ‘warned’ the French champions that they need to match the offer. If they do not, the centre-back looks like he’ll be on his way to England.

With the January window still open, it’s claimed that Inter will look for around £15m to sell Skriniar now. The Italians are reportedly resigned to losing the Slovakia international.

However, the player himself is said to have ruled out a move until the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether the English club in question will try to change his mind about this.

Could it be Liverpool?

It seems impossible that the name of the English club in question will remain a secret for long. But for now it’s open to speculation.

Could it be Liverpool, then? Well, the Reds have been credited with an interest in Skriniar on multiple occasions in recent weeks.

Their need for a new centre-back is not necessarily urgent, but they could do with starting to evaluate their options. As a result, a free transfer move for Skriniar at the end of the season could well appeal.

Turning twenty-eight in a couple of weeks, he isn’t the youngest around. With Liverpool currently relying on the older pair of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip though, he’s younger than what we have.

It isn’t usually in Liverpool’s DNA to make this kind of move. They tend to favour going after younger players who have room to grow into their potential.

But the signing of Thiago Alcantara in 2020 proves that they will break this policy if needs be. It isn’t often that a player of Skriniar’s pedigree becomes available for nothing. As per 90min, Inter were looking for £70m for him last summer. As a result, we wouldn’t be all that surprised to see the club in question be Liverpool.

Actually, who are we kidding, it’s Chelsea, isn’t it? Every time!
