Liverpool transfers: Borussia Dortmund making last-ditch effort to stop Jude Bellingham leaving

Borussia Dortmund are readying a huge contract offer for Jude Bellingham, to stave off interest from Liverpool.

That’s according to Bild, who claim that the German club are preparing a ‘last-ditch’ attempt to keep hold of Bellingham this summer.

That will reportedly involve offering the 19-year-old a whopping £13m per year. It’s claimed that this would see Bellingham become the best paid player in the club’s history.

The player’s current contract is set to run until 2025. An extension would reportedly keep Bellingham at Dortmund for an extra year, with an eventual sale seemingly inevitable.

Talks are said to be planned for March, with advisor Mark Bennett taking the lead for the England international.

Liverpool have once again been reiterated as Bellingham’s most likely destination should he leave Dortmund.

Bellingham ready for the next step

For Dortmund to try and keep Bellingham shows just how highly they rate him at the club.

Usually, they tend to accept when it’s time to move a player on. Their model in world football is well-known. Part of the appeal to player’s like Bellingham joining them is that they won’t stand in their way of leaving when the time is right.

For Bellingham, that time has surely arrived. He’ll have spent three years in the Bundesliga come this summer. He’s more than ready for the next step.

Where that next step will be remains in the balance. The favourites to sign the teenager has swung between Liverpool and Real Madrid throughout the transfer saga.

Dortmund clearly still fancy their chances though, as they look to pull off what would be a huge coup.

Don’t rule out Manchester City either. They’d comfortably be able to match Dortmund’s offer of around £250k-a-week, while also absorbing the £130m transfer fee. Still a way to go in this one, BVB aren’t losing the player Harry Kane called ‘outstanding’ without a fight.
