Liverpool bank on Jude Bellingham smartness to pick them - report

Liverpool are banking on Jude Bellingham having the ‘smartness’ to choose them, according to reports. The Reds are in a fight for the player.

This comes from Goal. Journalist Neil Jones writes about Liverpool’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham and what it might take to get him to Anfield.

There appear to be three teams truly locked into this battle, as reported by most outlets. Liverpool are there and some make them favourites. Manchester City and Real Madrid are legitimate options for Bellingham, too, and convincing him won’t be simple.

It’s always been made clear that this won’t be a strictly financial pursuit, though. Bellingham wants the right football project – one that allows him to achieve his ambitions. Rewind six months and Liverpool were well-placed to give him that. Arguably more than anyone else, given the clear role for him in midfield.

But the Reds’ form fell off a cliff this season and that’s why Jones claims they’re banking on Bellingham’s ‘natural smartness’ to look past that. They’re hoping he can essentially ignore the last four or five months and instead see the potential of the next four or five years.

But perhaps Liverpool don’t want him to entirely ignore the form. After all, the awful performance are a fine example of what Bellingham can bring to the team. He can watch any game from this season and clearly see where he fits in. And how big of a role he’s set for.

That might appeal. Jurgen Klopp can comfortably sell him on the idea of being a vital player and someone he builds his next side around. It’s as clear as day that Liverpool want Bellingham for just that. He’s a ‘special’ player, as Michael Owen says, and one who can be the Reds’ future.

Again, though, he must be able to see the potential in the side. It’s certainly there but Liverpool will have to sell it as well as they possibly can if they’re to beat City and Real in this fight.
