Michael Owen admits he was very wrong about Jude Bellingham. Liverpool reportedly hope to sign the player in 2023.

Michael Owen admits he had Jude Bellingham all wrong. The teenager thrived for England at the World Cup this year – and caught the former Liverpool striker off-guard.

“He does almost too much and at first I thought ‘Jeez Jude, you’re wasting energy covering too much ground because of your inexperience,'” Owen told the Telegraph. “I was wrong, the more I watch him, I love the way he plays.

“A lot of people, when they become very good, it almost becomes uncool to do the hard yards and the stuff you don’t really get loads of praise.

“He is so grounded, he does good things, great runs and scores goals, but when players make a name for themselves, they sometimes save their energy for the big, headline-grabbing moments.

“He does the stuff managers and team-mates really notice.”

Michael Owen was wrong about Jude Bellingham

Lots of people have been wrong about Bellingham, to be fair to Owen. After all, who could have predicted that a 19-year-old would thrive on the World Cup stage and look like a leader as he does it?

And that’s why Liverpool are reportedly so keen to sign Bellingham. The Mirror is one of the latest outlets to report on their interest, claiming that a relationship with Jordan Henderson is turning his head towards Anfield.

It’s an incredibly exciting claim. Bellingham might be the best teenager on the planet right now – and he’s already good enough to be the star of Liverpool’s midfield.

Owen is right to be so impressed. He goes on to say how much he loves watching Bellingham and that was certainly the consensus coming out of the World Cup. He’s a truly special player – once in a generation and Liverpool could achieve something remarkable in signing him.
