TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has claimed Liverpool should sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice over Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
Taking to his column for The Times, the former Republic of Ireland international has suggested that the Reds prioritise the Hammers captain, as he would be a better fit for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
“If the option is between Jude Bellingham and Rice, Liverpool should go for the latter,” Cascarino said.
“Bellingham is an excellent player, but Rice solves the problems Liverpool are having and would provide a platform enabling those around him to shine.
“Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have looked off the pace; with their ability to turn the ball over, make tackles and interceptions, having fallen away.
“As a result, Liverpool’s midfield has been easy to run through, but Rice is not a player who lets opponents pass him often.”
Cascarino says Liverpool should sign Rice over Bellingham
While the TalkSPORT pundit may be correct in his assessment that Liverpool desperately need a new defensive midfielder, Bellingham is a much better talent.
At 19 years old, the BVB starlet is already on Rice’s level – if not on a higher level.
Both players are absolutely phenomenal, and it would be a privilege to see either of them line-up in a Reds shirt at Anfield.
However, Bellingham is a generational talent. If only one of these midfielders could be picked, the chance to sign the former Birmingham City man would be too great to pass up.
He would be in Liverpool’s XI for the next decade, and a potential rebuild could be based around him.
Despite this, Rice would also be a brilliant addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
At 24 years old, he has already amassed 186 appearances in the Premier League.
