Report: Arsenal now confident of signing Declan Rice, after claims Klopp wants him at Liverpool

Arsenal are increasingly confident they will win the race to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, beating Liverpool to the 23-year-old’s signature.

That’s according to The Times, who claim the Gunners believe their status as the Premier League leaders puts them in a strong position to land the Hammers captain.

The east London outfit are expected to part ways with the England international this summer, as he is out of contract in 2024 – although there is the option to extend this by a further 12 months.

Consequently, it is believed Rice could be sold for £80m.

As per the Liverpool Echo, the Reds were very impressed with the midfielder’s performances at the World Cup.

Subsequently, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs claimed Jurgen Klopp’s side may look to lure the youngster to Anfield.

Arsenal confident of landing Liverpool target Rice

Liverpool desperately need midfield additions, and Rice would be perfect to add to Klopp’s squad.

Fabinho has been off the pace in recent months, and he is looking like he is struggling to keep up with the intensity of the Premier League.

Therefore, as his athleticism starts to deteriorate, the Reds need an additional defensive midfielder, which would allow the Brazilian to be rotated.

At just 23-years-old, Rice has already amassed 186 appearances in the English top-flight. This is extremely impressive, and he still has a decade left to play at the highest level.

Going forward, Liverpool need a new starter at the no.6 position.

Consequently, the Hammers captain would be perfect for the Merseyside outfit, as he has all the traits needed to hold down possession in the middle of the park. For this, he has been hailed as ‘magnificent’ by BBC pundit Gary Lineker.

Therefore, if the club are serious about getting back to the top level, they should do all they can beat Arsenal to signing Rice in the summer.
