Ruben Neves earned some high praise from Paul Ince after Wolves v Liverpool last night. The midfielder has been linked with the Reds.
Paul Ince felt Wolves failed to fully take advantage of Ruben Neves last night. The club bowed out of the FA Cup at home, losing their 3rd Round replay to Liverpool.
A Harvey Elliott wondergoal settled it – but Wolves had their chances. They got into some great areas, particularly in the second half. Ince, though, thinks they should have done better with Neves’s free-kicks.
The Portuguese midfielder saw one effort tipped over the bar, while a late opportunity was wasted without a shot on goal. That confused Ince.
“He’s one of the best free-kick takers in the Premier League,” he said about Neves on the BBC. Wolves should have made the most of that and had him shoot at goal.
Ruben Neves and Liverpool
Perhaps that free-kick taking is something Liverpool can take advantage going forward. The Reds reportedly want Neves, with the Mirror claiming there’s interest this month.
It’s a transfer we’re in favour of, too, as Neves does suit the style of play that many Liverpool players excel at. Exactly how likely a deal is, isn’t clear.
But Neves, who earns around £50k per week according to Capology, certainly boasts the talent to take a step up. His technique on the ball is fantastic, and he rightly earned praise from Jurgen Klopp after last night’s game.
His ability to spring counter-attacks from deep suits Liverpool perfectly. That free-kick delivery is another fantastic weapon, too, and one that could take pressure away from Trent Alexander-Arnold right now.
In other words, we’d like to see this one happen. Wolves are in the market for midfielders, too, which suggests something could happen this month.
We’ll certainly hope it does.
