Report: What FSG really think is to blame for Liverpool's poor form this season

Fenway Sports Group have now shared what they think is to blame for Liverpool’s poor form this season.

According to a report by The Athletic, the Reds’ American owners retain their unwavering support for Jurgen Klopp.

Instead, they attribute Liverpool being ten points off the top four due to the club being plagued by numerous injury setbacks this term.

This includes the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino, who all have been side-lined for extended periods of time.

As a result, there doesn’t appear to be a huge transfer budget for the Reds to blow late in the January window, so it will be up to Klopp to trigger a response from his men.

FSG blame Liverpool’s injuries

While this may usually be a valid excuse for certain teams, this cannot always be the reason for Liverpool’s demise.

For too long now have FSG failed to give Klopp the budget he needs to build a squad capable of competing with Manchester City year-in, year-out.

Therefore, when the club do go through these periods of suffering from numerous injuries, the American owners cannot be surprised that the team don’t play very well without some of their star players.

This happened during the 2020/21 season at centre-back, and the likes of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams heroically stepped up and secured Liverpool Champions League football.

If the Reds want to continually compete with the best teams in Europe, injuries cannot be an excuse in their pursuit of success.

Instead, it’s time for FSG to start backing the manager in the transfer market.
