PSV Eindhoven have made a change to the release clause of one-time Liverpool target Ibrahim Sangaré, according to reports. A move to the Premier League is on the cards.
This comes from Voetbal International. They claim that PSV moved to alter Ibrahim Sangaré‘s release clause this week.
The amount of the clause remains the same – clubs can sign the midfielder for £33m. However, PSV changed the timing of it, and the clause now expires a little way into the summer transfer window.
The report suggests this will lead to a Premier League transfer. Sangaré can essentially only move for the first part of the window, forcing interested clubs into an early deal. PSV don’t want to wait around and now won’t have to.
But who could be the club making that move?
Ibrahim Sangaré and Liverpool
Voetbal International reported late last season that Liverpool had eyes on Sangaré. The Reds were scouting him ahead of a potential summer move – but it never materialised.
That was a disappointment for us. We really like the look of Sangaré and hoped he’d be the alternative after Aurélien Tchouaméni went to Real Madrid.
But despite further links to the Premier League with Manchester United and Chelsea, Sangaré remained with PSV. That now keeps the door open for Liverpool to move again.
We do know, after all, that the Reds are looking at PSV. They’ve just signed Cody Gakpo from there and so they must know all about Sangaré. The midfielder is a fan of his former teammate, too, labelling him a ‘great player’.
The need for a new midfielder – or three – is abundantly clear, too. Liverpool will almost certainly make a move for Jude Bellingham this summer but he won’t be the only one. And Sangaré could be exactly the kind of energetic, well-rounded midfielder that they’re after.
Especially as he’s got that release clause. If Liverpool strike early, they could secure a very useful player.
