Liverpool reportedly have Ibrahim Sangaré as a transfer target this summer. He’s one the fans should feel hype for.
Voetbal International reports that Liverpool have Ibrahim Sangaré as a transfer target this summer. He’d cost around £31m from PSV Eindhoven and from what we can tell, would be an alternative to Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Regardless of what he’d cost or who he’d replace, Liverpool clearly like him. VB claim they’ve scouted him several times over the last few weeks and he’s certainly available. You can read our initial thoughts on a move here.
So what’s he actually like? Sangaré is a 24-year-old defensive midfielder from the Ivory Coast and one who has been in fine form for PSV this season. In fact, we believe Liverpool fans can feel some hype about this one.
Liverpool target Ibrahim Sangaré
Sangaré’s numbers this season show a defensive juggernaut. He averages 3.3 tackles per game in the Eredivisie – the second-most in the league. What really stands out is that Sangaré’s 2.6 interceptions are also good enough for second in the league.
To put that into perspective, no other player in the top 50 for tackles also averages over two interceptions. Similarly, no player in the top 15 for interceptions also picks up over three tackles. No one in the top 10 even manages more than two.
It’s also worth mentioning that every other player in the top 10 for interceptions is a defender. What Sangaré does, then, is special.
He does all of this while also averaging the 19th best pass completion in the Eredivisie. Sangaré is a fantastically consistent defensive midfielder that does just about everything you’d want him to. And he doesn’t even turn 25 until December.
Liverpool, of course, boast a magnificent record for improving players who have something special. They thrive on picking a player up, taking them on a level or two, and truly getting the most out of their talents.
Sangaré absolutely fits that bill and for £31m, he could end up looking like yet another bargain.
